Gibson ES-355 EBBG de 2016

La Gibson ES-355 apparaît en 1958 comme le modèle haut de gamme des guitares semi-hollow de Gibson, au-dessus des ES-335 et ES-345.

Elle se distingue par des finitions luxueuses (filets multiples, incrustations “block” ou “split-parallelogram”, accastillage doré)
et souvent par un système Varitone avec sortie stéréo.

Pensée pour les musiciens professionnels, l’ES-355 conserve la caisse semi-creuse avec bloc central inventée sur la ES-335,
offrant un équilibre entre chaleur jazz et résistance au larsen pour le blues et le rock !

Dans les années 1960, elle gagne en notoriété grâce à des artistes comme Chuck Berry et surtout B.B. King, dont la fameuse Lucille est directement dérivée de l’ES-355 (sans ouïes et sans Varitone).

Après un déclin dans les années 1970, la ES-355 revient en force via des rééditions Custom Shop, devenant aujourd’hui une guitare emblématique, associée au luxe, au blues et au rock classique !

The Gibson ES-355 was introduced in 1958 as Gibson’s top-of-the-line semi-hollow guitar, positioned above the ES-335 and ES-345.

It stands out for its luxurious appointments (multi-ply binding, “block” or “split-parallelogram” inlays, gold hardware),
and often features a Varitone circuit with stereo output.

Designed for professional musicians, the ES-355 retains the semi-hollow body with a solid center block first introduced on the ES-335,
offering a perfect balance between jazz warmth and feedback resistance for blues and rock !

During the 1960s, it gained widespread recognition through artists such as Chuck Berry, and especially B.B. King, whose famous Lucille is directly derived from the ES-355 (without f-holes and without Varitone).

After a decline in the 1970s, the ES-355 made a strong comeback through Custom Shop reissues, and is now considered an iconic guitar, associated with luxury, blues, and classic rock !
