Gibson Tal Farlow Custom Shop Tobacco sunburst de 2015

Tal Farlow était un talentueux guitariste de jazz américain qui avait joué sur des guitares Gibson pendant les années 1950. Ses premières prestations avec Red Norvo et Charles Mingus lui ont valu une première attention, et après un passage avec Artie Shaw, il a formé son propre trio. Mais à la fin des années 1950, il a pris sa retraite. Cependant, son influence, en particulier sur d'autres guitaristes, a été énorme. Ses principaux instruments des années 1940 et 1950 étaient les Gibson ES-250 et Gibson ES-350, un modèle abandonné en 1956. Lorsque Gibson a lancé sa gamme de guitares "Artist Series" au début des années 1960, elle y a ajouté un modèle jazz archtop Gibson Tal Farlow.


Naturellement, la Gibson Tal Farlow était basée sur la ES-350 à corps plein.
La construction et les dimensions du corps sont identiques, avec le même diapason de 25 1/2".
Le changement le plus important par rapport à la ES-350 concerne les micros : Des humbuckers Gibson, comme sur la SG Standard et la ES-175, remplacent les P90 en plastique noir.

Les autres différences sont essentiellement d'ordre cosmétique comme la volute distinctive sur la partie inférieure du pan coupé. Le pan coupé vénitien est surmonté d'une bande de matériau de reliure qui donne au pan coupé un effet de volute. Le pickguard à quatre points est taillé pour suivre la ligne du cutaway et accentuer la volute.

Tal Farlow was a talented American jazz guitarist who played Gibson guitars during the 1950s. His early performances with Red Norvo and Charles Mingus brought him initial attention, and after a stint with Artie Shaw, he formed his own trio. But by the end of the 1950s, he had retired. Nevertheless, his influence, particularly on other guitarists, was enormous. His main instruments of the 1940s and 1950s were the Gibson ES-250 and Gibson ES-350, a model discontinued in 1956. When Gibson launched its "Artist Series" line of guitars in the early 1960s, it added a Gibson Tal Farlow archtop jazz model.


Naturally, the Gibson Tal Farlow was based on the full-body ES-350.
Construction and body dimensions were identical, with the same 25 1/2" pitch.
The most important change from the ES-350 concerns the pickups: Gibson humbuckers, as on the SG Standard and ES-175, replace the black plastic P90s.

Other differences are essentially cosmetic, such as the distinctive scroll on the lower part of the pan coupe.

The Venetian cutaway is topped by a strip of binding material that gives the cutaway a volute effect. The four-point pickguard is cut to follow the line of the cutaway and accentuate the scroll.
