Fender Telecaster Bass de 1968

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation a été fondée en 1946 par Leo Fender en Californie.

D’abord fabricant d’amplis, Fender révolutionne la musique en lançant en 1950 la Telecaster,
première guitare électrique à corps plein produite en série, suivie de la Stratocaster en 1954,
devenue l’un des instruments les plus emblématiques de tous les temps !

En 1951, Fender crée également la Precision Bass, première basse électrique moderne !

Ces instruments ont profondément marqué le rock, le blues, le jazz et la pop, joués par des légendes comme Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Sting, ou encore John Mayer...

La Fender Telecaster Bass quant à elle a été introduite en 1968.

Malgré son nom, ce n’était pas une basse totalement nouvelle, mais plutôt une réédition de la toute première Precision Bass de 1951.
( À cette époque, Fender voulait remettre au goût du jour ce modèle classique ).

Elle portait le nom "Telecaster" car elle partageait beaucoup d’éléments de design avec la guitare Telecaster : forme du corps, tête de manche à une seule ligne de mécaniques, pickguard large…
C’était en quelque sorte une basse « rétro », à l’époque même où les musiciens cherchaient de nouveaux sons plus puissants !

En 1971, le modèle a été modifié avec un micro humbucker large positionné près du manche, pour un son plus gras et puissant.
( Cette version est parfois surnommée la "2nd version" de la Telecaster Bass ).

La production a cessé en 1979, mais le modèle est resté culte auprès des amateurs de son vintage.
Fender a par la suite réédité la Telecaster Bass en éditions limitées ou dans sa gamme Vintage Modified/Squier.

La Telecaster Bass est un hommage aux débuts de la basse électrique.

Elle incarne le son old-school et le style simple et efficace qui ont marqué les débuts du rock, du blues et de la country !

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation was founded in 1946 by Leo Fender in California.

Originally an amplifier manufacturer, Fender revolutionized music in 1950 with the release of the Telecaster,
the first mass-produced solid-body electric guitar, followed in 1954 by the Stratocaster,
which went on to become one of the most iconic instruments of all time !

In 1951, Fender also introduced the Precision Bass, the world’s first modern electric bass !

These instruments had a deep and lasting impact on rock, blues, jazz, and pop, played by legends like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Sting, and John Mayer...

As for the Fender Telecaster Bass, it was introduced in 1968.

Despite its name, it wasn’t an entirely new bass, but rather a reissue of the original 1951 Precision Bass.
(At the time, Fender wanted to bring this classic design back into the spotlight.)

It was named “Telecaster” because it shared many design elements with the Telecaster guitar: body shape, headstock with inline tuners, and a large pickguard.

It was essentially a retro-style bass, launched at a time when many musicians were looking for newer and more powerful tones !

In 1971, the model was updated with a large humbucking pickup placed near the neck, offering a fatter, more powerful sound.
(This version is sometimes referred to as the "second version" of the Telecaster Bass.)

Production ceased in 1979, but the model has remained cult among vintage tone lovers.
Fender later reissued the Telecaster Bass in limited editions and under its Vintage Modified / Squier series.

The Telecaster Bass is a true tribute to the early days of electric bass.
