Alembic Serie II Black de 1985

Alembic, marque américaine créée en 1969, est réputée pour ses basses de haute volée, popularisées par Stanley Clarke et utilisées par beaucoup d’autres grands noms (Cliff Burton, John Mcvie, Phil Lesh, John Entwistle…).

Les pièces de bois choisies et la lutherie de chaque instrument sont d’une qualité impeccable. Chaque basse est unique et leur électronique l’est tout autant.

Cette basse est vraiment mémorable car fabriquée sur commande pour Jürgen Dehmel, bassiste allemand ayant jouée avec le groupe Nena (Voici la basse en action : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K5c4MBsivM).

Le bassiste a demandé une finition assez inédite chez Alembic : le noir ! Inédite car ces instruments ont toujours de très belles pièces de bois et c’est la première fois qu’on leur demandait une couleur si couvrante. (Pour l’histoire, le bassiste a du envoyer 3 lettres différentes aux californiens pour confirmer que c’était bien la couleur qu’il voulait).

La forme aussi n’est pas commune aux Serie II (on voit plus souvent des Omega, ici elle est simplement arrondie).

Au niveau des bois, nous avons un corps en acajou, un manche 5 pièces en érable et amarante et une touche en ébène avec des inlays de forme ovale en nacre. Les repères en point sur le manche sont équipés d’un système LED qui s’allume en rouge dès que la basse est branchée.

Passons maintenant à l’électronique (active) de cette basse : on retrouve les fameux micros estampillés Alembic, propre à la série II. Au milieu des deux se cache une bobine fantome pour éviter les bruits parasites.
Différents contrôles sont présents : un sélecteur de micro, un master volume et un volume et une tone par micro. Le petit plus : 2 potentiomètres de Q (« CVQ control », propose à la série) agissant comme filtres passe-bas, très puissants. Inutile de dire que cette basse est extrêmement polyvalente et aboutie au niveau des sonorités, proposant des basses profondes, une excellente attaque et un sustain infini.

La basse se branche à l’aide d’un cable DIN 5 broches et d’un bloc d’alimentation, spécialement conçu pour celle-ci, fourni avec l’instrument.

Elle est livrée avec son hardcase original.

Une basse collector et unique au monde mais aussi une alliée de taille due a sa jouabilité et sa polyvalence.

This bass is cannot be compared to the others as it was built-to-order for Jürgen Dehmel, a German bass player who played with the band Nena ( Here you can see the bass in action : (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K5c4MBsivM).

The bassist asked for a previously unseen color for Alembic bass : Black. Unusual for the brand as they use beautiful and high end woods, mostly in a natural finish. It was the first time that they were asked to make it this way. ( For the history, the bassist had to send 3 letters confirming that it was this color that he wanted, Alembic would not believe him).

The shape is also uncommon to Serie II basses (You see mostly Omega shaped bass, here it is rounded only).

Regarding tone woods, we have a mahogany body with a 5-pieces neck made of maple and purpleheart, an ebony fretboard with mother-of-pearl oval inlays. Dots on the side of neck are equipped with an LED system that lights them red when the bass is plugged.

We have an active electronic with the infamous Alembic pickups made for the Serie II only. In between, you have an external "dummy" humcancelling pickup.
There are different controls : pickup selector, a master volume, one volume and one tone per pickups. Most of all, you can find two CVQ (« continuously variable Q » control). The Q is an attribute of the low-pass filter, affecting the frequency you have the low-pass filter tuned to. You can dampen the Q to near zero by turning the control all the way down, or get extreme with a 15dB boost at the maximum, plus all the subtlety in between.

No need to say that this bass is extremely polyvalent giving deep tones, a great attack and dynamic with a lot of sustain.

The bass is plugged via a DIN 5 pin cable and a power supply, made specially for the instrument.

She comes with her original hardcase.
