Fender Jazz Bass Olympic White Serie L de 1965

Arrivée au catalogue Fender en 1960, la Jazz Bass, d’abord appeler « Deluxe » offrait une grande polyvalence tonale et un design qui allait au-delà de l’utilitaire pour atteindre le confort nécessaire au jeu assis. Son manche a lui aussi été retravaillé pour être plus étroit et fin au niveau du sillet, rendant le jeu moins fatiguant.

La Jazz Bass possède deux micros comparé à la Precision, plus proche du design asymétrique dit offset waist contour de la Jazzmaster et de la Jaguar, son manche plus étroit que celui de sa grande sœur, la Precision.
L'intention originelle était de permettre aux contrebassistes de passer plus aisément à la basse électrique. La Jazz Bass possède trois potentiomètres (contre deux pour la Precision), un pour le volume par micro, et un potentiomètre pour la tonalité générale.

De nombreux musiciens ont adopté cet instrument tels que Noel Redding, Jaco Pastorius, Larry Graham et tant d’autres.

First introduced to the Fender catalog in 1960, the Jazz Bass, initially called the "Deluxe," offered great tonal versatility and a design that went beyond functionality to provide the comfort needed for seated playing. Its neck was also reworked to be narrower and thinner at the nut, making it less tiring to play.

Compared to the Precision, the Jazz Bass has two pickups, closer to the offset waist contour of the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, and a narrower neck than its big sister, the Precision. The original intention was to allow double bass players to switch more easily to the electric bass. The Jazz Bass has three knobs (versus two for the Precision), one for each pickup's volume and a general tone control.
